2025 US Open Champion to Receive $4.3 Million Prize

Jun 13 2025

The golfer who claims victory at the 2025 US Open will not only secure a prestigious title but also a remarkable cash prize of $4.3 million. This tournament, set to take place at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania, will conclude on June 15.

With an overall purse of $21.5 million, the US Open boasts the largest payout among major golf tournaments. This amount will be distributed among all participants, making it a lucrative event for many. The Players Championship, won by Rory McIlroy earlier this year, remains the only PGA Tour event with a higher total payout of $25 million.

Last year's champion, Bryson DeChambeau, also walked away with $4.3 million, highlighting the consistency in prize money for top performers.

In comparison to other major tournaments, the Masters, which McIlroy won in April, offered a total purse of $21 million. The PGA Championship, secured by Scottie Scheffler last month, had a payout of $19 million, while the Open Championship, won by Xander Schauffele last year, featured a purse of $17 million.

Individually, McIlroy earned $4.2 million for his Masters victory, while runner-up Justin Rose received $2.268 million. Scheffler's win at the PGA Championship netted him $3.42 million.

Mike Whan, CEO of the United States Golf Association, emphasized the significance of increasing prize money across tournaments. “I feel comfortable that we’ve been a leader in moving fast and bigger,” he stated in an interview. “We want to be relevant... we want the money to be commensurate with the achievement.”

As of now, Scheffler leads the year-to-date earnings with $14.55 million, bolstered by wins at both the PGA Championship and the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. McIlroy follows closely with $13.97 million after victories at the Masters and Players Championship.

On the PGA Tour career earnings list, McIlroy and Scheffler rank second and third, respectively. McIlroy has amassed a total of $104.96 million throughout his career, while Scheffler has earned $86.35 million. Both trail behind Tiger Woods, who holds the record for highest career earnings at $120.99 million.
