Anthony Edwards Proposes Training Day Remake to Timothée Chalamet
Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards is making strides in his acting aspirations. Following his role in the 2022 film Hustle, the 24-year-old athlete approached Timothée Chalamet with an intriguing idea: a remake of the classic film Training Day.
“Whenever you start directing a movie and you need somebody to be your main character, call your boy,” Edwards remarked to Chalamet during the inaugural Believe That Awards. “It could be a Training Day reboot. Let me be Denzel [Washington] and you be Officer Hoyt.”
Hosting the awards alongside his friend Nick Maddox on his YouTube channel, Edwards welcomed Chalamet, who joined via video link from Budapest, where he is currently filming Dune: Part Three. Chalamet, 29, was honored as White Boy of the Year, triumphing over nominees like Adam Sandler and Tom Cruise.
The original Training Day featured Washington as LAPD officer Alonzo Harris and Ethan Hawke as Jake Hoyt. The film garnered critical acclaim, earning Washington an Academy Award for Best Actor in 2002, and even inspired a CBS television series in 2017.

Should this reboot materialize, Edwards has one stipulation: “I can’t die in the movie. That’s the only thing. I can’t die.”
Despite playing for Minnesota and Chalamet being a devoted New York Knicks supporter, the two have forged a friendship through their mutual passion for basketball. Chalamet is often seen courtside at Madison Square Garden with girlfriend Kylie Jenner.
Edwards extended an invitation to Chalamet for a game in Minneapolis, saying, “You know, man, you got to come to a Minnesota game. I be seeing you at the New York game with them flag outfits on. You got to bring your flag to Minnesota, man.”
At the Believe That Awards, other notable figures were recognized as well. Noah Lyles, Skip Bayless, Magic Johnson, and Charles Barkley shared the Hater of the Year award. Edwards expressed particular discontent with Barkley, who criticized ESPN for promoting him as the “face” of the NBA.
“Don’t try to make Anthony Edwards the face of the NBA, because the face of the NBA is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Joker [Nikola Jokic] and Giannis [Antetokounmpo],” Barkley stated in May. “You can’t give it to people. They have to take it. And Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is taking it.”
Barkley also suggested that Edwards had “regressed” as a three-point shooter, despite Edwards maintaining an impressive shooting percentage above 40 percent from beyond the arc. “I had so much respect for you. I still got a lot of respect for you, but it done came down,” Edwards responded.
In other awards news, ESPN’s Shams Charania was named Reporter of the Year, WNBA icon Candace Parker received Woman of the Year honors, and Matilda actress Mara Wilson was awarded the Legacy Award. Additionally, Edwards’ Adidas AE1 sneaker clinched the title of Sneaker of the Year among its four nominations.
