Bandimere Pursues New Speedway Location in Northeast Colorado

May 27 2025

Plans for a new speedway in northeast Colorado are taking shape as John Bandimere Jr. shared updates with CBS News Colorado. "We also promised you that when we had news, we would share it with you. Well, we have some news," he stated, hinting at exciting developments ahead.

Bandimere Jr. confirmed that his organization, in collaboration with partners, has successfully acquired the first parcel of land near Hudson in Weld County. This acquisition marks the initial step in what he describes as a "complex puzzle" involving additional property acquisitions in the area. However, the specific location remains undisclosed.

"Zoning and annexation will now be taking place, with the exact timing not really sure, and we're not really clear as to how that will all work out," Bandimere Jr. explained, indicating that the process may take time.

In a YouTube video, he emphasized the importance of preserving the automobile legacy: "I know, most of you understand ... we've been working to continue the automobile legacy." This commitment follows the closure of Bandimere Speedway, which ended 65 years of drag racing on Hogback Mountain in October 2024.

Previously, Bandimere Speedway hosted nearly 130 events annually and boasted over 1,700 registered races each season. Since vacating their Morrison location adjacent to C470, the Bandimere family has been actively searching for a new venue.

John Bandimere Jr. reflected on the history of the racing facility, which his parents established in 1958, underscoring the family's deep roots in the racing community.

Jeff Gurney, a dedicated journalist, continues to engage with his community through storytelling across various platforms including television newscasts and CBSColorado.com.
