Boom2Funny: Chicago's Comedy Sensation Inspires Youth in Content Creation
Johnta Richmond, widely recognized as Boom2Funny, has captivated over one million followers on social media platforms, particularly TikTok, where his comedic flair shines.
His journey from the West Side to becoming a South Sider is rooted in personal experiences that fuel his creative output. "It kinda came from a real-life ex who's always popping up everywhere I go after we broke up," he explained, reflecting on the inspiration behind his videos. "She knew everything about me, my whole family, so I thought Iโd portray that in my content."
Initially, Richmond did not anticipate the viral success of his posts. "The very first time I did it, I did not expect it, but the numbers went up. I got a million views in one day," he recalled. A subsequent video filmed at a graduation with a stranger skyrocketed to 14 million views, further solidifying his online presence.
Beyond entertainment, Richmond is committed to empowering the next generation through a program called Social Impact, which teaches children how to navigate the digital landscape safely. "It's here to teach the kids how to use the internet in a safe way," he stated. "We have so many kids posting with each other and getting into fights and violence, so I decided to come in and teach them content creation."
He believes that teaching content creation is vital for youth in Chicago, emphasizing that "the internet is the new TV." Richmond engages with students from first grade through 12th grade, appreciating the diverse personalities he encounters.
Accuracy and relatability are central to his comedic style. "If you get a chance, check out any of the videos. I try to make it as accurate as possible, relative. Everybody has some kind of boom in them," he remarked.
Richmond's engaging content can be found on both YouTube and TikTok, where he continues to inspire and entertain.
