Byron Buxton Exits Game After Hand Injury
Minnesota Twins All-Star Byron Buxton left Wednesday's matchup against the Chicago Cubs after sustaining a contusion on his left hand, the result of a pitch thrown by Cade Horton.
In the first inning, Buxton stepped up to bat and was struck, initially deemed a foul ball. However, the Twins challenged the ruling, and video evidence confirmed that the ball made contact with the top of Buxton's hand.
Following an examination by a team trainer, Buxton continued playing and later crossed home plate after Ryan Jeffers hit a single. Despite this, he was replaced by Brooks Lee in the second inning.
This season marks Buxton's second selection to the All-Star team, and he is also set to participate in the Home Run Derby. The 31-year-old has recorded 20 home runs in 75 games, placing him sixth in the American League.
Throughout his career, injuries have plagued Buxton. Since his debut with the Twins in 2015, he has only surpassed 100 games played twice.
