Chicago Cubs to Host 2027 All-Star Game at Wrigley Field
The Chicago Cubs confirmed they will host the 2027 All-Star Game at Wrigley Field, a historic venue for baseball enthusiasts.
A special ceremony held Friday morning at the iconic ballpark featured city officials, Cubs Executive Chairman Tom Ricketts, and notable alumni from the team.
Scheduled for July 13, 2027, this event marks the fourth time the Cubs have hosted the Midsummer Classic.
Ricketts expressed pride in bringing the game to Chicago, stating, "Itโs an honor for our team, our city, and our state." He emphasized the significance of Wrigley Field, calling it a "baseball cathedral" and a top tourist destination in Illinois.
He added, "We can't wait to showcase how we have preserved this iconic ballpark. We play in a world-class city that is especially beautiful in the summer, and we're looking forward to hosting the best players in our great game and fans from around the world."
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker shared his enthusiasm, saying, "I am thrilled that the 2027 MLB All-Star Game will be hosted at Wrigley Field in Chicago." He highlighted the unique experience Wrigley offers to baseball fans globally.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson echoed this sentiment, stating, "On behalf of the City of Chicago, I am thrilled to welcome the 2027 MLB All-Star Game to our city." He noted Chicago's readiness to host such a prestigious event, citing its experience and infrastructure.
This will be the first All-Star Game at Wrigley since 1990. The announcement coincides with tributes to former second baseman Ryne Sandberg, who passed away earlier this week, including having his number 23 painted on the field.
In June, the city council approved an ordinance for installing bollards around the ballpark to enhance safety. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred remarked on Wrigleyville's development as an ideal setting for hosting major events.
Next yearโs All-Star Game is set to take place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
