Chicago Teens Aim for Real Madrid Opportunity

Chicago-area teens showcased their skills Thursday, aiming for a coveted opportunity with one of the world's premier soccer clubs.

At Lake View High School, located at 4015 N. Ashland Ave., players aged 18 and 19 participated in tryouts for the Abbott Dream Team, an initiative sponsored by the Chicago-based health care company Abbott.

Real Madrid scouts were present, assessing talent for a chance to win an all-expense-paid trip to Spain, where selected players will train with the legendary team.

"It's a win-win situation. Even if you're not selected, I think you get something out of today. You're able to be in an uncomfortable environment and see kind of what you're made of," remarked Clint Dempsey, a former U.S. Men's National Team player.

With only two spots available on the team, the competition proved intense, as aspiring athletes demonstrated their abilities under the watchful eyes of professional scouts.

The event not only provided a platform for young talent but also fostered a sense of community among participants, all sharing a common dream of soccer excellence.

As the tryouts concluded, excitement lingered in the air, with players hopeful for the chance to represent their city on an international stage.
