Damon Williams: Chicago Comedian Gains Viral Attention Ahead of City Winery Show
For over three decades, Damon Williams has been a staple in the Chicago comedy scene, captivating audiences with his unique brand of humor.
His impressive resume includes performances alongside legends like Chris Rock and Patti LaBelle, showcasing his talent on some of the biggest stages.
“I always have fresh materials; I try to keep it fresh,” Williams explained. “But it’s also about professionalism, diligence, and passion. Those factors come together, plus it’s how I pay my bills.”
Life in Chicago serves as a rich source of inspiration for his comedy. “You know life is funny, all day every day, especially in Chicago. If you just listen, you’ll find it funny. And once again, I’m inspired by my bills,” he added with a chuckle.
Recently, however, the question “Who is Damon Williams?” has taken social media by storm, ignited by comedian Jess Hilarious during a segment on a popular radio show.
“Swear to God, I don’t know no damn Damon Williams,” she remarked. “Sorry, sir. You might be a fine comedian, but I don’t know you.”
This comment sparked a wave of support from fans and fellow comedians alike, including B. Cole, who even created a song to explain Williams’ significance.
“Cedric the Entertainer was one of the first to chime in and say, ‘Well, I know Damon Williams,’” Williams recounted. “Then it became a hashtag: ‘I know Damon Williams.’ Now people I’ve known forever are walking up to me saying, ‘What’s your name again?’ It’s funny how quickly things change.”
Williams embraced the viral moment, turning it into an opportunity rather than a setback. “See, it’s good to be in a moment like this at this stage of my career and not be involved in a scandal. There’s no baby oil attached to my situation,” he joked.
He acknowledged the mixed reactions from younger audiences who may not be familiar with his work. “There’s a negative side; younger folks don’t really know me or didn’t know me. They’re looking at me like, ‘I still don’t know his big dome head,’” he said with laughter.
Fans can catch Damon Williams live at City Winery located at 1200 W. Randolph Street. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the show starting at 7:30 p.m.
