Detroit Tigers Acquire Chris Paddack and Randy Dobnak from Minnesota Twins
The Detroit Tigers have secured a trade with the Minnesota Twins, bringing in right-handed pitchers Chris Paddack and Randy Dobnak in exchange for minor leaguer Enrique Jimenez. The announcement was made on social media by both teams on Monday.
This move comes as the Tigers face a setback with Reese Olson sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a right shoulder strain, prompting the need for additional pitching depth.
Chris Paddack, 29, began his professional career when he was selected by the Miami Marlins in the 2015 MLB draft. He was traded to the San Diego Padres in 2016 and made his major league debut in 2019. After spending several seasons with the Padres, Paddack joined the Twins in 2022, where he served as their No. 6 starter. Unfortunately, he has been on the 60-day injured list this season while recovering from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow.
Known as "the Sheriff," a nickname reflecting his Texas heritage and penchant for cowboy attire on game days, Paddack recorded a 4.95 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP over 111 innings pitched in the 2025 season.
Randy Dobnak, who signed a minor league contract with the Twins in 2017, made his MLB debut alongside Paddack in 2019. However, he faced challenges in 2022, landing on the 60-day injured list due to a right middle finger sprain and subsequently being reassigned to the minors for the current season.
Outside of baseball, Dobnak has diversified his income by working as an Uber and Lyft driver since 2017, showcasing his adaptability beyond the diamond.
Currently, the Tigers lead the American League Central with a record of 61-46, having recently snapped a six-game losing streak with a decisive 10-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. In contrast, the Twins sit at No. 4 in the division with a 50-55 record, having lost their last four games against the Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals.
