Ex-Wife of NFL Star Rashawn Slater Denies Divorce Impact on $114 Million Contract

Jul 28 2025

Stassney Brown, former spouse of Los Angeles Chargers offensive lineman Rashawn Slater, has publicly rejected claims that their divorce influenced his recent contract negotiations.

On July 27, Slater, 26, secured a four-year extension worth $114 million with the Chargers, a deal confirmed by the team without disclosing specific financial details.

Following the announcement, NFL commentator Dov Kleinman, who has a substantial following on social media, suggested a connection between Slater's contract and his divorce from Brown. “Talk about good timing,” he remarked on X, prompting a swift response from Brown.

In a rebuttal posted on the same platform, Brown labeled Kleinman’s insinuation as “deplorable.” She emphasized her unwavering support for Slater, stating, “His contract is not about me. I think we should focus on what’s most important here, and that is his career and his success. Please stop including me in this narrative.”

Brown further expressed that Slater deserves to celebrate his achievements without distractions.

The timeline of Slater and Brown’s divorce remains unclear; they were married in March 2022.

Celebrating his new contract, Slater shared an Instagram post featuring a family photo taken during the signing. “Blessed to accomplish a dream of mine with my family by my side,” he wrote, acknowledging the support he received throughout his journey. “Just getting started, LFG!”

This contract positions Slater as the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history based on average annual salary.

Drafted 13th overall by the Chargers in 2021, Slater has made significant strides in his career, earning two Pro Bowl selections and being named a second-team All-Pro twice. However, his sophomore season was marred by injury after he ruptured his bicep tendon early in the 2022 season.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert praised Slater’s contributions both on and off the field during an interview last season. “Rashawn is such a great teammate, great locker room guy,” Herbert noted. “He’s competitive, very smart, very intelligent.”

Newly drafted tackle Joe Alt also acknowledged Slater's mentorship, stating that Slater's experience has been invaluable in his development. “Rashawn being able to have so much experience and being right there with me and being able to watch the film has been such a big help for me,” Alt remarked.

While Slater is currently sidelined with a minor injury, he is expected to be ready for the Chargers' season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs on September 5 in Brazil.
