Experimental Music Event Ignites Brooklyn with Fiery Performances

Jul 12 2025

Flames erupted from instruments as Fire the Band took the stage at Brooklyn's Chocolate Factory, transforming a typical concert into a mesmerizing spectacle. This past weekend, the venue on Scott Avenue in East Williamsburg hosted the Mechasonic Sessions, where music and fire intertwined in an extraordinary display.

Over two nights, a diverse group of artists collaborated to create an immersive experience filled with innovative sounds, vibrant lights, and, notably, fire. “It’s basically to give musicians and artists a way to do things that they couldn’t do in any other environment,” said Stefan Zeniuk, the musical director of Fire the Band. His vision emphasizes a platform for creativity, allowing both seasoned musicians and imaginative thinkers to explore uncharted territories in performance art.

The fourth installment of this unique series aimed to push the boundaries of musical experiences for both the audience and performers. “We have endless ideas and text threads that just spiral into wild concepts,” Zeniuk elaborated, highlighting the collaborative spirit that fuels these events. The focus remains on innovation, with a commitment to discovering new sounds and artistic expressions.

Among the standout features was horn player Chris Cortier’s trombone, which unleashed flames through a specialized propane system, captivating attendees with its fiery display. The previous event, held two years prior, drew a crowd of 600 and even caught the attention of the FDNY.

“Zero injuries to date,” Zeniuk proudly stated, underscoring the safety measures in place while delivering an unforgettable experience. As Fire the Band continues to redefine live music, audiences can expect more thrilling performances that blend artistry with the elemental power of fire.
