Frankie Capan Joins Record-Setting Field at 3M Open
This week, the 3M Open showcases its most competitive field to date, drawing attention from golf enthusiasts and players alike.
Among the competitors, some are battling to maintain their tour status while others, like Haotong Li and Chris Gotterup, are enjoying career highs. Li recently concluded a strong performance at the Open Championship, while Gotterup triumphed at the Genesis Scottish Open and secured a third-place finish at the Open.
"It's been a lot of just, you know, physically and mentally draining," Gotterup remarked. "Playing good comes with that. I'm happy to be here and excited for the week."
Ranked 18th, Maverick McNealy stands as the highest-rated player in this year’s lineup, a position he has embraced in past tournaments.
"That's the first time I've had that way, but it's just affirmation I think we're on the right track," McNealy stated. "My team's having me work on the right things and I'm excited to try to win this golf tournament this week. I'd love to have a chance late on Sunday. That's what we play for and that's a lot of fun."
Tom Hoge, a Fargo native with a history of success in Minnesota tournaments, is also in contention. Currently positioned 37th in the FedEx Cup standings, he aims to elevate his game further.
"Yeah, I would like it to be in a little bit better state," Hoge expressed. "It's nice to come back to a place where I'm familiar with. I feel like hopefully that can get things to click a little bit more and get a little more focused and ready to go for a nice push to end the season."
Then there’s Frankie Capan from North Oaks. As a rookie on tour, Capan faces challenges that could jeopardize his card.
"I think it's easy. You know, you get in a little bit of a rut and you don't have your best results and you think, you know, the world's ending," Capan reflected. "But at the same time, just tweak a few things here and there, I think we're on the right track."
