Giants' Cam Skattebo Fined Before Season-Ending Injury
New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo found himself in a financial bind just before a devastating injury sidelined him for the season.
On October 24, the NFL imposed a $15,000 fine on the 23-year-old rookie, two days prior to his dislocated ankle incident against the Philadelphia Eagles.
This penalty stemmed from a joint investigation by the NFL and the NFL Players Association, which determined that the Giants breached concussion protocols during their October 9 matchup against the Eagles.
Skattebo was reported to have entered the blue medical tent while rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart was undergoing a concussion evaluation.
A statement from the NFL and NFLPA detailed their findings: “After reviewing reports and video, and interviewing club medical staff, independent medical providers, coaches, and players, it was concluded that the Giants violated protocol.”
The statement continued, “While it was agreed that Coach Daboll’s and Mr. Skattebo’s actions did not affect Mr. Dart’s exam or care, their conduct showed a disregard for concussion protocol requirements.”
In addition to Skattebo's fine, the Giants organization faced a $200,000 penalty, while Head Coach Brian Daboll was fined $100,000.
These fines were categorized as “conduct detrimental to the league.”
Shortly after the ruling, Skattebo addressed reporters: “I don’t really got any comments. I’m just glad Jaxson’s healthy.”
During the game against the Eagles, Skattebo suffered a dislocated ankle, leading to his immediate transport to a Philadelphia hospital for surgery.
Expressing gratitude on social media, he wrote, “Thank you everyone for the support!! Surgery went well. I just want to thank the city of Philly for taking the best care of me.”
He added, “This is just the beginning of my journey and I can’t wait to show you guys all about it!!! GOD has a plan for me, stick the course and it will all work itself out.”
His girlfriend, Chloe Rodriguez, showed her support by sharing his message on Instagram with a blue heart emoji.
Despite the injury sidelining him for the rest of the season, there is optimism regarding Skattebo’s recovery. NFL insider Ian Rapoport noted, “If all is good and clean and the surgery went as well as everyone believes, he should be back with no issues for next year.”
