Hazelwood Green to Transform Empty Lots into Sports Field
City leaders have initiated plans to transform vacant lots into a multi-purpose sports field in Hazelwood Green, Pittsburgh.
At a recent planning commission meeting, officials granted conditional approval for the project, which will feature a sports field, bleachers, a concession stand, and ample parking.
Collaboration with the Pittsburgh Steelers is underway to ensure the facility serves the community throughout the year.
The development will take place on empty land along Gloster Street, situated just blocks from the Monongahela River.
With an estimated cost of $10 million, the 178-acre complex will be financed through a grant from the Richard King Mellon Foundation.
Approval from the planning commission hinges on developers engaging with the community regarding the materials used for the field, as reported by local sources.
