Two Illinois high school seniors, Jamaur Houston and Sophia Leverett, are gearing up to showcase their talents on a national stage at the upcoming Jimmy Awards, a prominent musical theatre competition.

Since 2012, Broadway In Chicago has spotlighted young talent through the Illinois High School Musical Theatre Awards. This year, 24 nominees were selected to perform at the Broadway Playhouse, where they captivated casting agents and industry professionals.

Houston and Leverett emerged as the top contenders, earning the opportunity to represent Illinois at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards. Their performances are set for later this month, marking a significant milestone in their artistic journeys.

"This has been one of the best experiences of my life," expressed Houston, reflecting on his journey. "I feel so prepared for everything, not just musical theatre."

The stakes are high; winners of the Jimmy Awards receive a $25,000 scholarship to further their education in the arts, while all finalists are awarded a $3,000 scholarship.

The prestigious ceremony will take place at Broadway's Minskoff Theatre on June 23 at 7:30 pm, promising an evening filled with exceptional talent and celebration of young artists.
