Daniel Radcliffe Reunites with Paralyzed Harry Potter Stunt Double

Jan 22 2025

Harry Potter fans were touched by a recent reunion between Daniel Radcliffe and David Holmes, the stunt double who faced a tragic accident on the set of the beloved film series. In 2009, while filming a stunt scene for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, Holmes was left paralyzed from the chest down due to an unexpected mishap during a 'jerk-back' sequence meant to simulate an explosion.

Having served as Radcliffe's stunt double since the first Harry Potter movie, Holmes shared that Radcliffe has become like family to him over the years. Despite the life-altering incident, their bond has only grown stronger, with Holmes expressing how they have essentially grown up together.

As a tribute to their enduring friendship, a documentary titled "David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived" is set to be released in 2023. Holmes revealed in an interview with LADbible that their connection goes beyond professional collaboration, as he also played the role of Radcliffe's PE teacher and they have shared numerous life experiences.

Radcliffe, who also served as the executive producer of the documentary, recently took the time to visit Holmes during his stay in the UK. The heartwarming reunion was captured in photos shared by Holmes on Instagram, where he expressed his joy at witnessing Radcliffe embrace fatherhood and reminisced about their shared interests in films, TV shows, and music.

During their get-together, Radcliffe and Holmes were joined by Marc Mailley, who took over the role of Radcliffe's stunt double for the final Harry Potter films. The trio spent quality time together, discussing their shared experiences and creating lasting memories.

Radcliffe's admiration for their friendship was evident as he marveled at an illustration of the duo, describing it as "so beautiful." The bond between Radcliffe, Holmes, and Mailley extends beyond the professional realm, showcasing a genuine camaraderie that has stood the test of time.
