Michelle Yeoh, known for her role as Captain Georgiou in Star Trek Discovery, is set to delve deeper into the character's narrative in the upcoming TV movie, Star Trek: Section 31. The film promises to explore the further adventures of Philippa Georgiou, portrayed by Yeoh, as she navigates a path towards redemption in this fresh installment.

In Star Trek Discovery, Yeoh's character, Captain Georgiou, is depicted as a remarkable mentor and leader, embodying qualities of compassion and resilience. However, viewers also encountered the Mirror Universe version of Georgiou, a stark contrast to her original character, ruling as an Emperor with a ruthless and tyrannical demeanor.

Star Trek: Section 31 introduces a new storyline where Philippa Georgiou collaborates with the secretive Starfleet division, embarking on a mission that compels her to confront the shadows of her past. Yeoh recently shared insights during a London screening of the movie, shedding light on the thrill of portraying Philippa Georgiou and the character's transformative journey in this latest cinematic venture.

Reflecting on her role, Yeoh expressed, "For me, really, the badass just takes over completely. It’s so liberating to be able to play a character like that, who’s just so unapologetic, and just goes out and gets what she wants. The end."

She further elaborated on Georgiou's evolution, stating, "But I think the most important thing along the way for Emperor Philippa Georgiou was to find friends – people she could actually trust – because in the Mirror Universe there’s no one you can trust. Not even your own daughter. No one basically. You’re on your own. It’s survival mode. But while she was in Discovery she met Michael Burnham and the crew there and she discovered humanity."

Yeoh delved into the core theme of redemption in the narrative, emphasizing the significance of second chances and self-forgiveness. She pondered, "This journey for her is really about redemption and do we really get a second chance? And when you are given a second chance, can you really take it? Can you forgive yourself? Forget about other people forgiving you, can you take that step into saying ‘I deserve to be forgiven, I deserve a second chance, and I can do better.'"

When questioned about embracing the vulnerability of the character in Section 31, Yeoh highlighted the necessity of vulnerability in portraying Georgiou's multifaceted persona. She remarked, "I think you have to. That’s what I love about this character, right from the beginning, when I was given the ability to play the beloved Captain Phillipa Georgiou where she was a really good mentor, leader, compassionate, but tough."
