MrBeast's Missed Opportunity: Why He Didn't Buy Hot Ones Despite Interest

Jan 30 2025

YouTube star MrBeast recently shared insights into why he refrained from making a bid to acquire Sean Evans' renowned Hot Ones show, despite his keen interest in expanding his content empire through the purchase of the popular interview series.

In a significant move in December 2024, Sean Evans, the co-creator and host of Hot Ones, acquired the show from Buzzfeed for a staggering $82.5 million, marking a pivotal moment in the show's history.

While Evans now holds the reins of the show after almost a decade of hosting, another prominent figure in the digital realm, Jimmy ‘MrBeast‘ Donaldson, expressed his admiration for Hot Ones and his hypothetical interest in acquiring it to enhance his ever-growing social media presence.

As the owner of the most-subscribed YouTube channel and the host of Amazon Prime's Beast Games reality show, MrBeast acknowledged that he would have considered incorporating Hot Ones under the MrBeast umbrella if he had been approached for the opportunity.

During an interview with fellow YouTubers Colin and Samir, MrBeast revealed, "He [Sean] never reached out. If he did, I probably would have."

When asked by Colin if acquiring Hot Ones was something he would be interested in, MrBeast responded affirmatively, stating, "Of course. I mean, I don’t have that kind of money right now, because I’m dumping everything into everything that I’m doing, but we could have financed it through a bank."

Expressing his enthusiasm for potentially funding the show, MrBeast highlighted his expertise in consumer packaged goods (CPG) and his ability to facilitate multiple exit sales and enhance the show's sauce offerings swiftly.

Reflecting on the missed opportunity, MrBeast humorously remarked, "When I saw that article, I was like, ‘Oh… he should have called me!'"

Despite his interest in appearing on Hot Ones, MrBeast candidly admitted his aversion to spicy food, stating that he despises it vehemently. However, his eagerness to collaborate with Evans could potentially outweigh his distaste for the show's signature spicy challenge.

Interestingly, MrBeast's chance to acquire Hot Ones slipped away, as the hosts of the popular YouTube series Cold Ones had explored the idea of purchasing Hot Ones with MrBeast in the summer of 2024.

MrBeast's presence on Hot Ones would have added to the show's legacy of hosting a myriad of celebrities over the years, leading to viral moments through appearances by notable guests such as Ice Spice, SZA, and even Conan O'Brien.
