Road Rage Over a Honk: Caddy Driver in Mask Threatens to Kill Tesla Driver With a Toy Gun

Feb 06 2025

A man was arrested and a plastic black handgun seized as Bloomfield Township Police investigated a road rage incident on Telegraph Road Sunday.

The suspect, identified as Mohamad Qasim Al-Amiri, aged 24, has been charged with assault following the incident. According to the police department's press release, Al-Amiri was arraigned at the 48th District Court on Wednesday.

The alarming situation unfolded with two separate 911 calls reporting the incident. The first call came from a witness who observed a silver and gold Cadillac blocking traffic at the intersection of Telegraph Road and Maple. The caller reported seeing the male driver brandishing what appeared to be a gun and threatening the female Tesla driver with phrases like, "I'm going to take your life right now."

Subsequently, the Tesla driver made the second 911 call, recounting how the Cadillac driver, angered by her honking after he cut her off, had resorted to threatening her with a gun. The Cadillac driver, described as wearing a ski mask that had shifted to reveal his face, was clearly agitated during the confrontation.

Following the incident, the Bloomfield Township Police Department swiftly located the Cadillac driver and discovered a black plastic handgun matching the witnesses' descriptions under the driver's seat. This evidence led to the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office.

Heather Glowacz, an officer from the Bloomfield Township Police Department, emphasized the importance of maintaining composure while driving. She advised, "Have a cool head when you're driving, and the little things slide by. It's not really worth risking your life. You never know what someone else is going through that day. A simple honk could be the tipping point for them."

Al-Amiri was granted a $10,000 bond following his arrest. The swift action by law enforcement in apprehending the suspect highlights the seriousness with which such incidents are treated.
