Shocking Twist: 93-Year-Old Husband Attempts to Kill Wife Twice to Avoid Leaving Her Alone
In a shocking turn of events, a 93-year-old man from Florida, Helmut Lockner, was arrested for attempting to kill his wife of 60 years not once, but twice. The reason behind his heinous acts? Lockner allegedly confessed that he did not want to leave his wife alone after his passing, according to authorities.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reported that Lockner's first attempt on his wife's life involved trying to smother her with a pillow while she was in bed. His wife, who remains unnamed in the police report, revealed that during this incident, Lockner expressed that he did not want to leave her alone.
Despite the initial attack, Lockner struck again weeks later. This time, he approached his wife as she sat watching TV and attempted to strangle her with a rope. The police report detailed the harrowing experience, stating that Lockner pulled the rope around her neck forcefully, causing her to feel like her blood circulation was being cut off.
Fortunately, Lockner's wife managed to fight back during the second attempt. She was able to place her hands between the rope and her neck, allowing her to escape to the patio. It was there that she dialed 911 for help, with Lockner reportedly making chilling remarks in the background, including, “You can die with me.”
When authorities arrived at the scene, they found Lockner's wife with bruises around her neck and blood coming from her arm. Lockner, on the other hand, was found in another room on the phone. He later admitted to attempting to kill his wife, as per the police report.
Zach Moore, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, expressed his astonishment at the case, stating, “I‘ve been at the sheriff’s office for five and a half years and I’ve never seen anything like this.” He emphasized the importance of Lockner's wife being able to defend herself and survive the attacks.
Lockner now faces two counts of first-degree attempted homicide and is set to appear in court on November 26, as indicated by jail records. The motive behind Lockner's actions, whether influenced by a terminal illness or solely his desire not to leave his wife alone, remains a subject of investigation.
The community and authorities alike are left bewildered by the bizarre and tragic events that unfolded within the Lockner household. The case serves as a stark reminder of the complexities of human emotions and the unexpected turns life can take, even after decades of marriage.
