Fake Bear, Real Trouble: Four LA Residents Arrested for Insurance Scam

Four individuals from the Los Angeles area found themselves in hot water after attempting a bizarre insurance scam involving a fake bear suit. The California Department of Insurance revealed that Ruben Tamrazian, Ararat Chirkinian, Vahe Muradkhanyan, and Alfiya Zuckerman are now facing serious charges of insurance fraud and conspiracy.

The peculiar scheme unfolded when the suspects allegedly concocted a story claiming that a bear had vandalized their high-end vehicles in Lake Arrowhead. The group asserted that a bear had infiltrated their 2010 Rolls Royce Ghost, causing damage to the interior. To bolster their claim, they even provided video evidence to the insurance company.

However, suspicions arose when investigators closely examined the footage and made a startling discovery – the bear was not a wild animal but a person disguised in a bear suit. This revelation prompted a deeper probe into the matter.

Further scrutiny revealed that the same group had also filed similar claims for two other luxury vehicles, a 2015 Mercedes G63 AMG and a 2022 Mercedes E350, alleging bear-related damages on the same day at the same location. The suspects had gone to great lengths to fabricate evidence, including submitting videos for all three incidents.

To debunk the ruse once and for all, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife was brought in to analyze the videos. Their expert opinion confirmed what investigators suspected – it was indeed a human masquerading as a bear in the recordings. Subsequently, a search warrant executed at the suspects' residence led to the discovery of the incriminating bear costume.

The repercussions of this elaborate hoax were substantial, with insurance companies suffering a financial blow of $141,839 due to the fraudulent claims. The case has now been handed over to the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
