James Gunn, the creative genius behind the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, had grand visions for expanding the cosmic realm of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). While Gunn's departure to lead DC Studios may have raised questions about the future of the Guardians, his recent revelations have sparked excitement among fans.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the anticipated sequel, received widespread acclaim from both fans and critics, with many hailing it as one of the best movies in the MCU. The film not only delved deeper into the backstories of our favorite characters but also introduced new faces, paving the way for a myriad of storytelling opportunities and ensuring that the adventures of Star-Lord and his crew are far from over.
In a recent interview, James Gunn unveiled that he had envisioned three spin-off projects centered around the Guardians universe during his tenure at Marvel Studios. While Gunn may have moved on, there remains a glimmer of hope that these projects could see the light of day in the future.
During an engaging conversation on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn shared his enthusiasm for exploring various spin-off ideas. He expressed, "There were so many spin-offs I wanted to do. I mean yeah, the Ravagers show, I thought could be a fun thing," hinting at a potential series following the adventures of the space pirate crew led by Yondu, who played a pivotal role in young Peter Quill's journey.
Furthermore, Gunn disclosed his elaborate plans for a Quill-centric project titled "Legendary Star-Lord," which he had meticulously developed. Additionally, he had a compelling concept for a Rocket and Groot spin-off. Gunn confessed, "Rocket and Groot is what Guardians 3 was supposed to be. I initially wanted to delve into Rocket & Groot's narrative before pivoting to Guardians 3 to explore Rocket's compelling storyline." This shift in focus resulted in one of the most emotionally resonant tales in the MCU.
