Too Much Christmas Spirit: Maryland Man pours whiskey in holy water at church and pelts parishioner with tangerines.
It was a Christmas Eve like no other for parishioners at two Maryland churches when Thomas Campbell Bolling Von Goetz, 56, decided to spread chaos and confusion in the name of holiday spirit. The festive season took a dark turn as Von Goetz embarked on a sacrilegious rampage, leaving a trail of bizarre and disruptive behavior in his wake.
The first stop on Von Goetz's unholy mission was Holy Angels Catholic Church in Avenue, where during Mass, he made a dramatic entrance by dropping an onion in the aisle before proceeding towards the altar. His disruptive antics did not end there, as he then engaged in a fruit-flinging frenzy, pelting a parishioner with tangerines before making a swift exit.
Undeterred by his earlier escapade, Von Goetz escalated his disruptive behavior at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Leonardtown during midnight Mass. Here, he shocked churchgoers by pouring whiskey into the holy water and menacing parishioners with threats, creating a scene of turmoil and fear.
As chaos unfolded, brave parishioners took matters into their own hands, confronting Von Goetz as he attempted to harm multiple individuals with a bottle of liquor. Despite his resistance, the unruly intruder was subdued by the determined church members, who held him until law enforcement authorities arrived on the scene.
Following the incident, Von Goetz was promptly taken to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital for a medical evaluation before being formally arrested on a slew of charges. His mug shot, featuring a devilish grin, captured the essence of his disruptive and disrespectful behavior during the Christmas Eve church rampage.
