Renowned indie filmmaker and director, Jeff Baena, has sadly passed away at the age of 47. Baena, who was married to "Parks and Recreation" star Aubrey Plaza, was a prominent figure in the film industry.
The news of Baena's untimely death was confirmed by representatives for Plaza, who directed CBS News to a report by Deadline. Additionally, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office has also verified his passing. The cause of his death has not been disclosed at this time.
Baena was most notably recognized for his work on the 2014 comedy "Life After Beth," which featured Plaza in a leading role. He also co-wrote the 2004 film "I Heart Huckabees." His contributions extended to recent projects such as creating, writing, directing, and executive producing Showtime's 2021 series "Cinema Toast" and working on the 2022 movie "Spin Me Round."
In 2021, Baena tied the knot with Plaza, marking a significant personal milestone for the couple. Plaza shared details about their wedding on The Ellen Show, revealing that the ceremony was a spontaneous affair held in their backyard during the COVID-19 lockdown. The impromptu decision to marry coincided with their tenth anniversary together.
Reflecting on the unconventional wedding, Plaza recounted, "I just said, 'It's our 10-year anniversary, we should do something, get an ice cream cone, you know, do something special.' And then I joked about getting married, and he said, 'Well, we probably couldn't get married that fast.' I said, 'Wouldn't it be nice to get married on our actual anniversary?' So, I found OneHourMarriage.com, called them at 5 p.m., and asked if they could come in an hour to marry us in our yard."
