Eagles Boost Running Game with AJ Dillon Signing!

Mar 13 2025

The Philadelphia Eagles are making moves to strengthen their running back lineup, bringing in former Green Bay Packers star AJ Dillon on a one-year deal, as reported by NFL Network.

Dillon, who is 26 years old, had a tough break last season, missing the entire 2024 campaign due to a neck injury. He did manage to play in 15 games during the 2023 season but had to sit out Green Bay's regular-season finale and playoff games after suffering a cervical neck stinger in Week 17 against the Minnesota Vikings. Fortunately, Dillon has received clearance from one of the top neck specialists in the country, allowing him to sign with the Eagles.

Before his injury, Dillon was a solid contributor in a running back committee with the Packers, sharing the field with Aaron Jones, who has since moved to the Minnesota Vikings. In the 2023 season, Dillon rushed for 613 yards and scored two touchdowns. He also showcased his versatility as a receiver, catching 22 passes for 223 yards.

Dillon's best season came in 2021 when he recorded 34 receptions for 313 yards and two touchdowns, alongside rushing for 803 yards and five touchdowns. Known for his powerful running style, Dillon is expected to complement Will Shipley, who is also backing up Saquon Barkley in Philadelphia. The Eagles recently lost backup running back Kenneth Gainwell to free agency, as he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In addition to extending Barkley and re-signing linebacker Zack Baun, the Eagles have been relatively quiet in free agency compared to previous years. On the same day Dillon was signed, the Eagles also re-signed fullback Ben VanSumeren to a one-year deal. However, they made headlines by trading fan favorite C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans and sending backup quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Cleveland Browns.
