New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo's season has taken a devastating turn following a serious injury sustained during a game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The 23-year-old athlete suffered an open tibia fracture, a ruptured deltoid ligament, and a dislocated right ankle, as reported by ESPN.

The nature of the open fracture required immediate medical attention, as the bone had penetrated the skin. Skattebo was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery shortly after the incident.

During the second quarter of the game on October 26, Skattebo's leg became trapped between the field and Eagles linebacker Zack Baun, leading to the gruesome injury that resulted in him being carted off the field.

Expressing gratitude for the support he received, Skattebo took to X on Monday, stating, “Thank you everyone for the support!! Surgery went well. I just want to thank the city of Philly for taking the best care of me.” He emphasized feeling loved and supported during his hospital stay, thanking the medical staff for their efforts.

“This is just the beginning of my journey and I can’t wait to show you guys all about it!!! GOD has a plan for me, stick the course and it will all work itself out, BRB,” he added, showcasing his determination to recover.

Chloe Rodriguez, Skattebo’s girlfriend, shared her support on social media by reposting his message with a blue heart emoji, further highlighting the emotional backing he has during this challenging time.

While Skattebo will miss the remainder of the NFL season, league insider Ian Rapoport indicated that he is expected to make a full recovery in time for next year. “It’s a gruesome injury, but the recovery is actually not as bad,” Rapoport noted on X.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll provided an update on Skattebo’s condition during a press conference on October 29, revealing that he had already returned to the team facilities. “He’s wheeling around and attending meetings,” Daboll said. “He’s got a road ahead of him to rehab.”

Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs addressed Skattebo's injury on his podcast “New Heights,” acknowledging its severity. “Sending all the love to him. Hopefully, he can get back. The NFL absolutely loves a motherf***er like that,” Kelce remarked, emphasizing Skattebo's toughness and popularity within the league.

Kelce further expressed concern for Skattebo, stating, “Nobody wants to see one of the most loved players in the league get hurt like that.” He praised Skattebo's impact on football in recent weeks and expressed hope for his swift return to form.

As Skattebo begins his recovery journey, the Giants are set to face off against the San Francisco 49ers at home on November 2, continuing their season without their standout rookie running back.
