Kennard Davis of BYU Basketball Arrested on DUI Charges
Brigham Young University basketball player Kennard Davis was arrested on DUI charges on November 13, just days ahead of a highly anticipated game against third-ranked UConn.
The 20-year-old Davis crashed his vehicle in Provo, Utah, sustaining minor injuries, while the other driver involved was unharmed, according to police reports. The incident has raised concerns as the Cougars prepare for their matchup on November 15.
In a statement, the university acknowledged awareness of the situation and is currently investigating the allegations against Davis.
Given BYU's strict honor code, which prohibits alcohol and substance use among students, Davis' arrest complicates his status with the team. Violations of this code can lead to severe consequences, including potential dismissal from the university.

Historically, BYU has faced challenges with honor code violations. A notable case involved Brandon Davies, who was suspended during the 2010-11 season for premarital relations. His suspension came after the team achieved a remarkable 27-2 record and reached No. 3 in the AP Poll.
As of now, it remains unclear whether Davis traveled with the team to Boston for the upcoming game against UConn.
Davis joined BYU from Southern Illinois during the offseason and has made an immediate impact, starting in both games played thus far. He averages 9.0 points per game and boasts an impressive shooting percentage nearing 60%. He missed a recent victory over Delaware due to a leg injury but was expected to return for the UConn game.
Coach Kevin Young expressed concern for all players dealing with injuries, emphasizing Davis' importance to the team. βHeβs such a huge part of our team because of his toughness and defensive versatility,β Young remarked after the Delaware game.
Despite potential setbacks with Davis' situation, the Cougars are equipped with talent, including AJ Dybantsa, a projected top-three pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Dybantsa, hailing from Boston, is averaging 18.7 points and 7.0 rebounds in his freshman season.
Leading the scoring for BYU is senior guard Richie Saunders, who averages 20.3 points per game with a notable 47% shooting from beyond the arc.
