Long Beach Advances Plans for Minor League Baseball at Blair Field

Jul 24 2025

On Tuesday, Long Beach City Council members voted unanimously to advance plans for a new minor league baseball team at Blair Field, marking a significant step towards revitalizing the city's sports scene.

The initiative will see city leaders collaborate with Cal State Long Beach officials to establish what is currently referred to as the Long Beach Baseball Club. This team is set to play its home games at Blair Field, which also serves as the home ground for CSULB's baseball team during the spring season.

"The proposed partnership aims to revitalize Blair Field, enhance community access, and generate economic benefits for surrounding neighborhoods," stated the recommendation presented before the vote.

Improvements to Blair Field will include renovations to locker rooms, enhancements to the outfield, and a commitment to long-term maintenance of the facility. Additionally, city leaders plan to elevate the fan experience through branding initiatives, sponsorship opportunities, and modern amenities.

Originally opened in 1956, Blair Field last underwent renovations in 2009, which included updated lighting and a new electronic scoreboard, as noted on the City of Long Beach's official website.

This new team would be the first minor league franchise in Long Beach since 2009 when the Long Beach Armada suspended operations. The city previously hosted the Long Beach Breakers from 2001 to 2003.

Once established, the Long Beach Baseball Club will join the Pioneer Baseball League as its 13th team. The PBL is one of four MLB Partner Leagues operating across the United States, with a focus on the West Coast.

City officials have been approached for comments regarding this decision but have yet to respond.
