Los Bukis Receives Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
Los Bukis, a prominent regional Mexican band, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in their illustrious career.
Fans and supporters gathered in droves along the 7000 block of Hollywood Boulevard, celebrating the band's rich cultural contributions and musical legacy.
Founded in 1973 by cousins Marco Antonio and Joel Solís, the group began as a duo. After facing initial challenges, they secured a record deal with Discos Melody, paving the way for their future success.
As time progressed, Los Bukis expanded to include seven additional members: Marco Ibarra, Arturo Martínez, Alfonso Bugarini, Eusebio "Chivo" Cortés, Roberto Guadarrama, Javier Solís, Pedro Sánchez, and José Guadarrama. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce recognized them as "pioneers of the romantic ballad in Spanish-language music," largely due to Marco Antonio's distinctive voice and songwriting prowess.
Their professional journey took off in 1976 with the hit "Falso Amor," which set the stage for their rise in the music industry. By the 1980s, Los Bukis transitioned from opening acts to headliners, achieving remarkable success with their 1986 single "Tu Cárcel," which became Mexico's first Diamond Record and garnered three Grammy nominations.
In 1989, the band made waves at the Premio Lo Nuestro awards, clinching multiple accolades including group of the year and album of the year, as noted by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
After a 25-year hiatus from performing together, Los Bukis reunited in 2021, making history as the first Latin artists to headline a stadium tour titled "Una Historia Cantada," which kicked off with sold-out shows at Sofi Stadium.
