Luka Doncic Discusses Life with the Lakers and Playing Alongside LeBron James
Luka Doncic opened up about his transition to Los Angeles during a recent podcast episode featuring LeBron James and Steve Nash. The conversation, part of the "Mind the Game" series, offered a glimpse into Doncic's experiences as a new member of the Lakers.
In a clip shared on Monday, Doncic expressed his admiration for James, describing it as "unbelievable" to play alongside such a seasoned athlete. He highlighted James' rigorous preparation routine, noting, "First of all, he shows up like 10 hours before the game so that was really the main, like, I was like 'what?' … When I came to the arena he was already done working out."
Doncic characterized their on-court chemistry as a "work in progress," emphasizing that they are improving with each practice. Interestingly, the discussion skirted around the February trade that brought Doncic to the Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis.
Nash probed Doncic about his experiences in Los Angeles, drawing comparisons to Slovenia, which has a population of just 2 million. Doncic remarked that he feels no pressure from the celebrity-studded audience at home games, instead relishing the coastal lifestyle. "After the first couple days that was the first thing on my mind … the only thing is the traffic," he quipped.
The majority of their dialogue centered on youth sports and the initiatives both James and Doncic are pursuing to enhance the experience for young athletes globally. Notably absent from their conversation were topics regarding the Lakers' first-round playoff exit or the upcoming NBA Finals.
While the exact timing and location of the interview remain unspecified, they referenced a recent game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, which took place earlier that day. The Lakers secured a victory over the Thunder on April 6, with a tip-off at 2:30 p.m. CT.
A follow-up segment of this engaging interview is set to be released next week.
