Lynx Strengthen Roster with DiJonai Carrington Trade

Aug 03 2025

The Minnesota Lynx, currently leading the WNBA, made a significant move on Sunday by trading for DiJonai Carrington from the Dallas Wings. In exchange, the Lynx sent Diamond Miller, Karlie Samuelson, and a second-round draft pick in 2027 to Dallas.

Carrington, a versatile 5-foot-11 guard/forward, has shown her capabilities this season, averaging 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.8 assists over 20 games with the Wings. She joined Dallas earlier this year from Connecticut as part of a complex four-team trade. This marks her fifth season in the league.

On the other hand, Miller, selected as the No. 2 overall pick by the Lynx two years ago, has struggled this season, averaging just 4.1 points per game. After a promising rookie year where she averaged 12.1 points, her performance has dipped significantly, with only 3.5 points per game over the last 47 contests.

Karlie Samuelson has been sidelined since June 29 due to foot surgery, having played only 16 games for Minnesota after being acquired from Washington in April. Her previous stint included four games with Dallas back in 2019.

To accommodate Carrington's arrival, the Wings waived 6-foot-7 center Teaira McCowan, a seasoned veteran with seven years in the WNBA. McCowan contributed an average of 5.6 points and 4.6 rebounds across 17 games this season.

As of now, Minnesota boasts an impressive record of 24-5 this season. In contrast, the Wings have faced challenges, losing eight of their last ten games and holding a record of 8-21, despite having the top overall draft pick, Paige Bueckers.
