The Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons are set to bring NBA action to Mexico City on November 1, marking a significant moment in the league's international outreach.
This matchup will be the NBA's 34th game in Mexico since the league first ventured south of the border in 1992, showcasing the growing popularity of basketball in the region.
"We take significant pride in the fact that the Mavericks organization and our supporters reflect the increased globalization of basketball and the NBA," stated Mavericks CEO Rick Welts. He emphasized that "the vibrancy of Mexico City and the passion of its fans make it the perfect place to host these Global Games."
While the complete NBA schedule for the upcoming season is expected to be unveiled in late summer, the league often announces select international games beforehand, generating excitement among fans.
Pistons president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon expressed enthusiasm about the event, saying, "Playing a regular-season game in Mexico City will be a great experience for our players and coaches. We look forward to showcasing Detroit basketball to an international audience and a passionate, growing NBA fanbase."
As the draft approaches, the Mavericks hold the No. 1 pick and are anticipated to select Duke's Cooper Flagg. Meanwhile, the Pistons have made notable strides this season, successfully reaching the Eastern Conference playoffs.
