Memory Lane Drive-In: A Nostalgic Comeback with a Twist!
Hey movie lovers! Get ready because the Memory Lane Drive-In is set to reopen its gates this week, and it’s bringing some fresh rules along with it. The folks running the show are hoping these changes will help keep the drive-in alive and kicking for years to come.
For those who don’t know, Memory Lane opened its doors back in 2021, taking over the spot where the Denniston Drive-In used to be before it closed down in 1985. It’s been a go-to for a mix of the latest blockbusters and some classic flicks that tug at the heartstrings.
“Memory Lane is special because it’s a place people want to visit. It’s a destination that families have loved for generations, and that’s what we aim to keep going,” said Sue Christy, who’s stepping in to help run the theater with her husband. Sounds like a labor of love, right?
But, let’s be real for a sec. The drive-in has faced some tough times lately, mainly due to a drop in attendance. “We want to be here for our customers. They’re everything to us,” Christy shared. “Movies are great, but without customers, we’ve got nothing.”
Another hurdle? People bringing their own snacks. Christy pointed out that a big chunk of ticket sales goes straight to the movie studios and distributors. So, without those tasty snack sales, it’s tough to keep the lights on.
To tackle this, they’re rolling out a new rule: if you want to bring your own picnic, you’ll need to cough up a $20 fee for outside food and drinks. The idea is to encourage folks to check out the drive-in’s own snack offerings. “We’ve got everything you need right here. No need to go anywhere else,” Christy added.
As for the movie lineup, expect a variety of first-run films across different genres. With two screens, they can show a family-friendly flick on one and a romantic movie on the other. It’s like having the best of both worlds!
Christy’s feeling a mix of excitement and nerves about the drive-in’s revival. “It’s a good kind of nervous, and I can’t wait for the whole season to kick off,” she said, clearly ready to welcome back the community.
So, if you’re in the Monroe area, mark your calendars and get ready to enjoy some movies under the stars at Memory Lane Drive-In. It’s not just a theater; it’s a slice of nostalgia that’s making a comeback!
