Mike Posner Kicks Off Sonic Lunch Season in Ann Arbor
Liberty Plaza in Ann Arbor buzzed with energy Thursday as Sonic Lunch made its much-anticipated return.
Sponsored by the Bank of Ann Arbor, this free concert series is now celebrating its 18th season. Rainy weather did little to deter fans, who traveled from afar to catch headliner Mike Posner.
"We drove like two and a half hours," shared Micheal Williams, a dedicated fan.
Another attendee, Morgan Cherry, chimed in, "We drove an hour at like 9 a.m. I'm probably one of Mike Posner's biggest fans." The enthusiasm was palpable among the crowd.
Every Thursday from June through August, Sonic Lunch offers free concerts, and this yearβs lineup promises to be one of the most exciting yet.
Organizer Matthew Altruda highlighted the impressive roster: "We have Phillip Phillips, The Accidentals, May Erlewine, Laith Al-Saadi." The anticipation for these performances is building.
Posner, a Detroit native, reflected on his connection to Michigan, recalling fond memories of attending football games with his father, a University of Michigan alumnus.
"It's always good to play in Michigan in general and in Ann Arbor especially; I love it here," Posner remarked. "I've been playing here for a long time." His return to the stage in his home state resonated deeply with both him and his fans.
Joining Posner on tour is DJ and reality TV star Brody Jenner. "Mike's going on a big festival tour and we're playing some big shows," Jenner explained. "Our agent asked if I wanted to do it, and I was like, 'Yes, absolutely.' I've always been a fan of Mike; he's one of my favorite artists, so it's a dream come true." The collaboration adds an exciting dynamic to the tour.
