Minnesota Wild Retain Marcus Johansson with New Contract
The Minnesota Wild confirmed the re-signing of right wing Marcus Johansson on Monday, finalizing a one-year contract valued at $800,000. This agreement ensures that the 15-year NHL veteran will not enter free agency.
During the 2024-25 regular season, Johansson contributed significantly to the team, netting 11 goals and providing 23 assists across 72 games. His performance placed him sixth in points among his teammates, as he navigated between the second and third lines.
At 34 years old, Johansson joined the Wild from Washington just prior to the NHL trade deadline in 2023. Last season, he played under a salary cap hit of $2 million.
In addition to his NHL contributions, Johansson showcased his skills on the international stage, scoring four goals and adding four assists in nine games for Sweden at last month’s ice hockey world championships. His efforts were instrumental in securing a bronze medal for his country. Over his career, Johansson has amassed 185 goals and 332 assists in 983 regular-season games, representing seven different teams in the NHL.
