Jul 07 2025

On Tuesday night, the Buell Theatre will welcome the musical comedy "Some Like It Hot," a vibrant adaptation of the classic film that promises to deliver a delightful theatrical experience.

Running from July 8 to July 20, the production is set to captivate audiences at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.

Prior to its Denver debut, a sneak peek of the show took place in Philadelphia, where stars Matt Loehr and Tavis Kordell shared their excitement. "I was a big fan of the movie," Loehr expressed, highlighting his enthusiasm for the role of Joe. "Itโ€™s the dreamiest role I could ever ask for with everything I like to do. So, when I saw the show, I was like, 'Please, God, let me do this.'

Kordell echoed this sentiment, noting that the show's core message of love and respect was a significant draw for him. "Something that drew me to Some Like It Hot was its message of love and respect," he stated.

The duo emphasized the show's energetic opening. "This show is shot out of a cannon. We are flexing all our muscles within two minutes of the curtain," Kordell remarked, setting the tone for what audiences can expect.

The plot unfolds in 1930s Chicago, where two men seeking work in the performing arts inadvertently witness a mob murder. To escape danger and earn money, they disguise themselves as women and join an all-female band on tour.

With a blend of humor, music, and iconic tap dance routines, the show promises to be a high-energy spectacle. "It is cardio performance at its highest level," Loehr noted.

Kordell added, "The comedy in this show is perfect. It is slapstick comedy. It is the wit; it is the speed. The comedy in the show is perfectly timed."

As the narrative follows a touring band, Denver becomes part of the storyline. "We make many city references, and we do reference Denver in the show. I am excited to see how Denver will take that," Kordell said.

Loehr expressed confidence in Denver audiences: "Denver audiences have always been really great."

Beyond entertainment, "Some Like It Hot" aims to uplift with its themes of love and acceptance. Loehr described it as a "really traditional big-Broadway musical with huge Broadway numbers, tons of tap dancing, amazing Tony Award-winning costumes, energy, comedy," all wrapped in a modern message of inclusion.

"The takeaway message from this show is to lead with more love and respect in our lives," Kordell concluded. "If we just lead with our hearts, that would truly make the world a better place."
