Napheesa Collier Injured During Lynx's Historic Win Over Aces

Aug 02 2025

Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier exited Saturday's game against the Las Vegas Aces after injuring her right ankle, contributing to a staggering 111-58 victory.

Coach Cheryl Reeve addressed the situation post-game, noting that it was premature to determine the extent of Collier's injury. "She was in the locker room with us, but as protocol, tomorrow or whatever chance we get, we'll continue to evaluate and examine images, all that good stuff," Reeve stated.

The injury occurred late in the third quarter when Collier appeared to step on teammate Alanna Smith's foot while trailing a play. As she fell near the Aces' bench, the Lynx held a commanding 92-49 lead.

Collier attempted to rise but quickly sat back down, visibly in pain. Aces players A'ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray, Jackie Young, NaLyssa Smith, and Kierstan Bell rushed to her side, shielding her from view with towels.

Teammates and trainers soon arrived to assist the two-time All-Star MVP. Collier managed to leave the court independently but did so gingerly, favoring her right ankle with a Lynx staff member supporting her.

The Lynx, boasting a league-best record of 24-5, will have a break until Tuesday when they face Seattle to conclude their two-game road trip. This victory marked the largest road win in WNBA history.

Reeve refrained from speculating on whether Collier would undergo an MRI in Las Vegas or travel with the team to Seattle. "It's just way too early," she remarked. "At this point in time, I don't know exactly what's happening."
