Naz Reid Returns to Timberwolves with New Contract
Naz Reid, a beloved figure among Minnesota Timberwolves fans, is set to continue his journey with the team after signing a new contract. The announcement came on Monday, confirming the 25-year-old big man's return, although specific financial details remain undisclosed. Reports suggest the deal spans five years and is valued at $125 million.
This marks Reid's second contract with the Timberwolves since he joined as an undrafted free agent from LSU in 2019. Despite being positioned behind stars Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle on the roster, Reid has established himself as one of the league's most effective bench players, a fact underscored by his new contract.
Last season, Reid achieved personal bests in several categories, including minutes played, points scored, assists, and rebounds per game. While his shooting percentages dipped compared to his Sixth Man of the Year campaign in 2023-2024, he still managed an impressive 46.2% from the field and 37.9% from beyond the arc. His durability was notable, participating in all but two regular-season games and stepping in as a starter for 17 of them.
Although Reid's playoff performance was less impactful than expected, the Timberwolves are optimistic that this was merely an anomaly. His popularity among fans is evident; many have even gone so far as to get tattoos of his name during the team's recent playoff runs.
With Reid's re-signing alongside Randle's, the Timberwolves are poised to maintain continuity after their back-to-back appearances in the Western Conference finals. The only significant departure this offseason has been Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who has signed with the Atlanta Hawks.
In addition to retaining key players, the Timberwolves have bolstered their frontcourt by drafting two promising big men: Joan Beringer, a 6-foot-11 talent from France, and Rocco Zikarsky, a towering 7-foot-2 prospect from Australia.
