Ole Miss Players Challenge Lane Kiffin's Account of Final Meeting
Lane Kiffin's recent transition from Ole Miss to LSU has sparked a heated debate, particularly regarding his portrayal of his final meeting with the Rebels. The former head coach, now at LSU, stated that players expressed a desire for him to continue coaching through the College Football Playoff.
However, several Ole Miss players have taken to social media to contest Kiffin's narrative. Offensive lineman Brycen Sanders responded directly to Kiffin's statement, asserting, “Despite the team asking me to keep coaching, I think everyone that was in that room would disagree.” His sentiments were echoed by teammate Jayden Williams, who reinforced the disagreement with a simple yet emphatic, “Let em’ know! Every single person!”
Kiffin's announcement on November 30 about leaving Oxford after six successful seasons has not only surprised fans but also drawn criticism from various quarters. The Rebels, boasting an impressive 11-1 record this season, are preparing for the playoffs without their head coach. Kiffin expressed disappointment in his statement, saying he hoped to lead the team through the playoffs and build on their success. He claimed that his request to remain was denied by athletic director Keith Carter, despite the players' wishes.

Further dissent emerged from other players. Lineman Paris Wilkins remarked on Sanders' post, stating, “Fax this was not said from anyone.” Linebacker Suntarine Perkins also weighed in, emphasizing that Kiffin’s claims did not reflect the reality of their meeting: “That was not the message you said in the meeting room. Everybody that was in there can vouch on this.”
Even former defensive tackle Tariqious Tisdale, who played for Ole Miss in 2020, joined the conversation from afar, expressing his support for current players and criticizing Kiffin’s character: “Don’t get me started on Lane; he’s been a snake since I met him.”
In his introductory press conference at LSU, Kiffin addressed the backlash he faced upon his arrival, including hostile reactions from fans. He recounted a distressing incident where he felt threatened while driving with his son: “It was really hard. I’m human... you got to call a cop that you know so they’ll help you because you got to turn around and people are screaming at you, trying to run you off the road.”
Reflecting on the emotional toll of the situation, Kiffin acknowledged the passion of fans but also expressed disappointment at their reactions: “It’s the passion. But they’re saying that about you... you thought you did a really good job for six years for them. That affects you.”
