Patrick Mahomes Discusses Leg Injury Following Chiefs' Playoff Exit
Patrick Mahomes addressed his leg injury sustained during the Chiefs' recent game against the Los Angeles Chargers, a match that ended in a narrow defeat for Kansas City.
On December 14, following the game, Mahomes took to X to express his thoughts on the injury that forced him to leave the field limping. The Chiefs lost 16-13, marking their first playoff exit in over a decade.
“Don’t know why this had to happen. And not going to lie it hurts. But all we can do now is trust in God and attack every single day over and over again,” he wrote, thanking the Chiefs kingdom for their unwavering support and prayers. “I will be back stronger than ever,” he added, concluding his message with optimism.
The post quickly garnered over 97,000 reactions, reflecting the strong support from fans. In a critical moment of the game, Mahomes was tackled near the sideline, visibly in pain as he clutched his left knee. Medical staff rushed to assist him before he was taken to a medical tent for evaluation.

Reports later confirmed that Mahomes suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his left knee, with an MRI conducted post-game validating the injury. This setback follows an ongoing knee issue that has plagued him for several weeks. He finished the game with 189 passing yards, one interception, and a rushing touchdown.
If Mahomes is sidelined for the remainder of the season, Gardner Minshew is expected to step in as quarterback. The Chiefs' loss signifies their elimination from playoff contention, despite their recent success, including three Super Bowl victories in five seasons.
On the sidelines, Mahomes received support from his wife, Brittany, who showcased her fashion sense in a stylish white fleece-lined jacket. She shared a kiss with him before kickoff, accessorizing with aviator sunglasses and red leather gloves that echoed the team's colors.
Meanwhile, at Arrowhead Stadium, Travis Kelce's fiancée, Taylor Swift, attended the game alongside her future sister-in-law Kylie Kelce. Swift was spotted in a multicolored coat that complemented her signature red lipstick and loose waves.
Kylie sported a “New Heights” sweatshirt while accompanied by her daughters and family members, including Swift’s mother and both Kelce mothers. The “New Heights” podcast is co-hosted by Jason and Travis Kelce.
Reflecting on playoff prospects after a previous loss to the Houston Texans, Travis Kelce expressed concerns about their situation during a podcast episode. “Obviously looking at the playoffs, this is a tough reality to be in,” he remarked candidly. “It’s a s***ty f***ing feeling.”
