Ozzy Osbourne, the iconic figure of heavy metal, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 76, just seventeen days after his final performance with Black Sabbath. His influence on music and culture is undeniable.

Born John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948, he became a household name not only for his groundbreaking music but also for his endearing portrayal as a father on a popular reality TV show in the early 2000s.

Jacky BamBam, a DJ at 93.3 WMMR, remarked, "He started it all… Ozzy was your Prince of Darkness." This sentiment echoes the feelings of many who grew up listening to his music.

Sara Parker, another WMMR DJ, shared her thoughts: "Watching Ozzy on stage, listening to his music, it gives you life. It makes you feel that wild energy that makes you just want to push forward." Such statements highlight the electrifying presence Osbourne had during performances.

Osbourne and his bandmates in Black Sabbath are often likened to the Beatles of heavy metal, having paved the way for countless artists who followed in their footsteps. Their innovative sound and style have left an indelible mark on the music industry.

"He was a little cuckoo for cuckoo puffs, but that's why we loved him," BamBam added, capturing the quirky charm that endeared Osbourne to fans worldwide.

The impact of Osbourne's music transcended the industry itself. Ryan Shuttleworth, another WMMR DJ, reflected on his personal connection to Osbourne's work: "As a kid growing up, not knowing where you fit in this world, to have something that you found not only the music that you like but the community that surrounds it… it really set the course of my life."

Black Sabbath's first U.S. concert took place at Glassboro State College—now Rowan University—on October 30, 1970. This event marked the beginning of a legacy that would resonate through generations.

Mike DiFranco, a lifelong fan and Rowan graduate, recalled how one of Osbourne's songs, "I Don't Want to Change the World," inspired him to embrace his true self. He also credited a friendship formed with a fellow Osbourne enthusiast in high school—his now brother-in-law—as pivotal in leading him to marry his wife.

Osbourne's zest for life and music will ensure he is remembered fondly by fans and peers alike. His legacy continues to inspire those who find solace and strength in his art.
