Prep School Teacher, 26, Faces Charges for Sexual Relationship with 16-Year-Old Student After Revealing Misconduct to Coworker
A 26-year-old teacher at Oakside Prep Academy in Waterford Township, Michigan, has been charged with engaging in sexual conduct with a 16-year-old student. The allegations surfaced after Jocelyn Sanroman disclosed the relationship to a fellow educator, prompting an investigation by authorities.
Sanroman, a resident of Pontiac, is facing a third-degree criminal sexual conduct charge. The incidents reportedly occurred in 2023 while she was employed at the charter school, which is approximately 30 miles from downtown Detroit.

As of Monday morning, Sanroman had not yet been arraigned, but her mugshot was released by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. The situation escalated when she confided in another teacher about her sexual involvement with the student, leading that colleague to alert law enforcement.
“This defendant is accused of using her position of authority to exploit a minor victim,” stated Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. She emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting that such actions represent a severe breach of trust that educators hold within the community.
McDonald further commended the teacher who reported the incident, highlighting the importance of protecting students from potential harm. “As a former teacher myself, I applaud the teacher who contacted police about this situation, protecting other students from further exploitation,” she remarked.

If convicted, Sanroman could face up to 15 years in prison for the charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. Oakside Prep Academy is part of the National Heritage Academies system, which promotes a “Moral Focus” program aimed at helping students understand ethical distinctions between right and wrong, according to the school's website.
