Royals Snap Marlins' Streak with 7-4 Victory
Kris Bubic delivered a commanding performance, throwing five scoreless innings as the Kansas City Royals triumphed over the Miami Marlins 7-4 on Sunday. This victory halted the Marlins' four-game winning streak and prevented a three-game sweep.
Bubic, now 8-6 for the season, allowed just three hits and issued one walk. In a contrasting ninth inning, Andrew Hoffmann struggled, conceding four runs—none of which were earned—in two-thirds of an inning. Carlos Estévez stepped in to secure his 26th save, closing out the game.
Salvador Perez showcased his offensive prowess, hitting his 15th home run of the season in the eighth inning and adding a ground-rule double earlier in the game.
The Royals established a solid lead, scoring three runs in the fourth inning and extending it to six by the fifth. Bobby Witt Jr. ignited the fourth with his major league-leading 33rd double, advancing to third on a single from Vinnie Pasquantino. Maikel Garcia's sacrifice fly brought Witt home, followed by Perez's double and Jac Caglianone's two-run double off starter Janson Junk, who fell to 4-2.
In the fifth, Jonathan India contributed with a two-run double, while Pasquantino added an RBI sacrifice fly to further bolster Kansas City's lead.
Miami's offense saw contributions from Xavier Edwards and Agustín Ramírez, each driving in two runs. Despite their efforts, the Marlins could not overcome the Royals' early advantage.
Looking ahead, Miami's Eury Pérez (3-2, 3.18 ERA) is slated to start against San Diego on Monday night, while Kansas City's Noah Cameron (3-4, 2.31) is set to face the Cubs in Chicago.
