Stockton 99 Speedway Hosts Record Crowd Amid Fireworks Show Cancellation
On Thursday night, the Stockton 99 Speedway welcomed its largest audience of the season, with over 5,500 attendees filling the stands. Originally planned to culminate in a fireworks display, the event faced an unexpected setback when a fireworks warehouse explosion in Yolo County led to the cancellation of the show.
Despite the disappointment regarding the fireworks, fans also turned out in droves for the Stockton Ports game, where their scheduled fireworks display remained unaffected. This marked the Ports' most crowded game in a decade, showcasing the community's enthusiasm for local events.
Speedway owner Tony Noceti expressed his frustrations regarding recent challenges, including a burglary that resulted in the theft of $20,000 worth of essential equipment just a week prior. "We have to get our job done. Our sound people dove in, our radio people, the sheriff's department. All they have to do is ask for help, don't come in here and break my stuff up," Noceti stated, highlighting the resilience of his team amidst adversity.
In response to the recent events, the city of Stockton has scheduled its own fireworks show at Weber Point for Friday night, providing residents with an alternative celebration. Meanwhile, the speedway plans to host another racing event on August 9, aiming to raise funds to support those affected by the incident in Esparto.
