Teen Mom Who Slit Newborn’s Throat After Hidden Pregnancy Gets 35 Years for Horrific Murder
A Nebraska teen has been sentenced to a staggering 35 to 60 years in prison for the horrific act of slashing her newborn son’s throat shortly after giving birth in her own bedroom, as reported by various sources.
Chloe Coplen-Anderson, now 18, entered a no contest plea to second-degree murder, leading to her lengthy prison term, according to the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office. The tragic incident occurred on November 6, 2023, when the then-16-year-old delivered her baby boy in secret at her home in Gordon.
In a shocking turn of events, after concealing her pregnancy from her parents, Coplen-Anderson retrieved a knife from the kitchen and returned to her bedroom, where she committed the unthinkable act against her newborn. The details of the case, outlined in an arrest affidavit, reveal the grim circumstances surrounding the infant's death.

Authorities were alerted to the situation when the teen’s father reported that the baby was not breathing, claiming to the responding officer that the child was stillborn and that it was “too late” to save him. Upon arrival, the officer found Coplen-Anderson’s mother visibly distraught, having noticed “marks” on the deceased infant. Both parents informed the officer that they had seen their daughter take a knife from the kitchen earlier that day, raising immediate suspicions.
The lifeless body of the newborn was discovered wrapped in a towel, showing signs of severe trauma, including a severed windpipe and multiple stab wounds on the left side of his chest, as detailed in court records. Initially, police were unable to locate the murder weapon, but they were later called back to the residence when Coplen-Anderson’s father found the bloody knife hidden in his daughter’s closet.
Chloe’s attorney, Todd Lancaster, has stated that his client suffered from long-term trauma and mental health issues, which he claims were exacerbated by abuse from family members. He also mentioned that she was impregnated by a 19-year-old when she was just 15 years old, suggesting a complex background that may have contributed to her actions.
As it stands, Coplen-Anderson could be released from prison at the age of 76, having already served nearly two years of her sentence, which counts towards her total time behind bars. The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting the tragic circumstances surrounding the young mother and the devastating consequences of her actions.
