Vikings Cheerleader Blaize Shiek Makes NFL Debut Amid Criticism

Aug 14 2025

Blaize Shiek stepped onto the field for the first time as a Minnesota Vikings cheerleader earlier this month, making his NFL debut during the preseason opener against the Houston Texans at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

“SEE YOU AT 3 ⏰,” Shiek announced on Instagram, signaling his excitement for the game.

As one of two male cheerleaders on the Vikings squad, alongside Louie Conn, Shiek's inclusion has sparked a wave of criticism since their announcement for the 2025 season.

Critics have taken to social media to voice their discontent, with some even threatening to cancel their season tickets. “Why do people condone this 😂😂,” one user remarked, while another lamented, “Haven’t us Vikings fans suffered enough over the years? Now this??!”

In response to the backlash, the Vikings organization issued a statement defending Shiek and Conn's positions. “Male cheerleaders have been part of previous Vikings teams and have long been associated with collegiate and professional cheerleading,” the team emphasized. They also noted that no season ticket holders have returned their deposits.

Shiek reflected on his journey in a video shared on the Vikings’ YouTube channel. “I went to a lot of Vikings games with my family, mainly my dad,” he recalled. “Was definitely watching the cheerleaders thinking like, ‘I wish I could do that.’”

He expressed his desire to serve as a role model for young fans who may not realize that such opportunities exist. After enduring rigorous tryouts, Shiek celebrated his official selection to the cheerleading squad in May.

“I am so grateful for this journey, the support, and the opportunity to make a little history along the way,” he wrote on Instagram. “I hope to represent and inspire what’s possible when you stay true to who you are.”

The Vikings cheerleading team also took a moment to celebrate Conn’s birthday in June, praising him as an “amazing rookie.” They shared their enthusiasm on Instagram: “You have already brought so much energy, passion, and pure purple pride to the MVC family, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate YOU today!”

With both Shiek and Conn now part of the team, the Vikings cheerleading squad looks forward to an exciting season ahead filled with unforgettable moments.
