Brent Rooker Stands Firm on Parenting During Home Run Derby
Brent Rooker, the Athletics' slugger, exited the 2025 Home Run Derby in the first round but made headlines for a different reason—his commitment to fatherhood. While competitors swung for the fences, Rooker took a moment to feed his infant daughter, a decision he defends without hesitation.
After a fan criticized him on X for feeding his 11-month-old during the event, Rooker responded directly, stating, “Yes, it was necessary to feed my 11-month-old child her nighttime bottle at like 9:00 pm. Thank you for asking.” His candid reply came on July 15, showcasing his priorities as a parent.
Before the Derby, Rooker congratulated Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh on his victory, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to compete. “What a blast! It was an honor to compete against those guys and fulfill a childhood dream,” he posted. “Still hard to believe I get opportunities to do things like this.”
Despite the criticism, Rooker's dedication to his family remains evident. He and his wife, Allie Oliver, are parents to two daughters: 11-month-old Blake and 3-year-old Blair. Following the Derby, Rooker shared a family photo on Instagram, celebrating their time together on the field.
Baseball has always been intertwined with family for Rooker. Last year, they brought Blair to the All-Star Game, and she often joins him at Athletics games, especially after the final out.

Support poured in from fans in the comments section. Boston Red Sox reporter Gabrielle Star praised Rooker's parenting, stating, “Personally, I think one of the best things is seeing people be loving parents who are there for their kids as much as possible. That’s the ultimate home run.”
Even fans from rival teams chimed in. A Dodgers supporter remarked on the importance of cherishing those moments with young children, while a Tigers fan noted that Rooker's busy schedule likely limits his time for such interactions. “Good on him for being a dad,” they added.
Rooker's experience at the Derby highlights not just his athletic prowess but also his commitment to family values, resonating with many who appreciate seeing athletes balance their professional and personal lives.
