Freddie Freeman's Late Heroics Propel Dodgers Past Giants 5-2

Jul 13 2025

With two outs in the 11th inning, Freddie Freeman connected with a bloop single that found its way into shallow right-center, scoring James Outman and giving the Los Angeles Dodgers a crucial go-ahead run. This pivotal moment led to a 5-2 victory against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, marking a successful series win just one day after breaking a season-high seven-game losing streak.

Spencer Bivens (2-3) began the 11th by intentionally walking Shohei Ohtani, but he quickly retired Mookie Betts and Will Smith. Freeman's timely hit fell between three Giants players, igniting the Dodgers' rally.

Teoscar Hernández followed with an infield single, adding an insurance run, while Andy Pages capped off the inning with an RBI single, further extending the lead.

Ben Casparius (7-3) closed out the 10th by getting Willy Adames to ground out and then delivered a flawless 11th inning to secure the win.

Earlier in the game, pinch-hitter Luis Matos tied the score with a two-run homer in the ninth, following Matt Chapman's one-out single that initiated the comeback against Tanner Scott, who suffered his seventh blown save of the season.

Miguel Rojas contributed to the Dodgers' offense with a home run, while Freeman's early RBI double had given Los Angeles a lead that held until the ninth inning.

Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto, making his first All-Star appearance, struck out seven batters over seven innings, allowing only three hits throughout his outing.

As the defending World Series champions, the Dodgers (58-39) head into the All-Star break leading the NL West, having completed the first half of the season with nine consecutive games against teams with winning records.

Manager Dave Roberts is set to lead the NL All-Stars in Atlanta, where he indicated plans to pitch left-hander Clayton Kershaw early in what may be Kershaw's final Midsummer Classic appearance.

In a game characterized by its low hit count—only 11 total hits—Los Angeles managed to do just enough against Giants lefty Robbie Ray. Notably, Giants left fielder Heliot Ramos made an impressive leaping catch at the wall to deny Ohtani an extra-base hit at the start of the game. Ohtani walked in the fourth, singled in the fifth, and flied out in the eighth.

San Francisco (52-45) reached the All-Star break with 52 wins for only the fifth time in two decades, previously achieving this milestone during their NL West-winning season of 2021, as well as in 2016, 2014, and 2011.

Neither team has announced its rotation for after the All-Star break. The Dodgers will host Milwaukee to kick off a six-game homestand on Friday, while the Giants are set to visit Toronto.
