Caddie Michael Cromie Earns $360K in Four Days at BMW Championship

Scottie Scheffler clinched victory at the BMW Championship on August 17, but the spotlight also shone brightly on his substitute caddie, Michael Cromie. The unexpected partnership proved lucrative for Cromie, who earned a remarkable $360,000 for just four days of work.

With Scheffler's regular caddie, Ted Scott, unavailable due to personal matters, Cromie, typically caddying for PGA TOUR golfer Chris Kirk, found himself stepping into a high-pressure role. Kirk's failure to make the cut at the BMW Championship freed Cromie to assist the world’s top-ranked golfer.

In a thrilling finish at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland, Scheffler overcame a deficit to secure his win, edging out Robert McIntyre by two strokes. The tournament's total purse of $3.6 million meant that Cromie would receive 10% of the winnings, translating to a hefty paycheck.

Beyond the cash, Cromie celebrated his success with a Rolex watch, which he proudly displayed on his Instagram Story the following day. This victory marked Scheffler's fifth win on the PGA TOUR this year, and he credited Cromie's support in achieving this milestone.

“He’s a guy I can trust,” Scheffler remarked about Cromie during a post-tournament press conference. “He’s one of Ted’s good buddies. It’s pretty much as simple as that. Cromie is a guy that works hard. He does his prep work, and he was an easy guy for me to trust out there.”

As they navigated the course, Scheffler noted their effective communication and focus, especially during tense moments on the back nine. “We did a good job of talking through our shots and staying patient,” he explained. “Closed the tournament out nicely.”

While acknowledging Scott's absence without delving into specifics, Scheffler expressed support for his regular caddie's family situation. “Ted is at home with his family, and he’s where he’s supposed to be,” he stated. “We’re praying for them, and his family is doing all right. Cromie did a great job this week. It’s not easy stepping in and trying to fill in for Ted. Those are some big shoes to fill.”

As the TOUR Championship approaches at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta on August 21, speculation remains regarding Scott's return to Scheffler's bag.
