Scottie Scheffler Shines at Happy Gilmore 2 Premiere Following Open Championship Win

Jul 21 2025

Scottie Scheffler made a striking appearance at the premiere of Happy Gilmore 2 in New York City, just a day after clinching victory at the British Open. The event took place on July 21, where Scheffler, 29, celebrated his cameo in the much-anticipated sequel to the classic Adam Sandler film.

Casual yet stylish, Scheffler opted for a white polo paired with khaki slacks as he walked the red carpet. His attendance was a last-minute decision, having just flown in from Ireland where he competed in The Open Championship. The golfer triumphed over Harris English, winning the tournament by four strokes and securing his second major title of the year.

“The Claret Jug has made its way to the Happy Gilmore 2 premiere,” the PGA Tour account shared on social media, posting a photo of Scheffler proudly holding the trophy. This prestigious award, a gold medal for winning the Open, comes alongside a hefty purse of $17 million.

In Happy Gilmore 2, Scheffler plays himself, contributing to a storyline that sees Happy Gilmore (Sandler) return from retirement to earn enough money for his daughter Vienna (Sunny Sandler) to attend ballet school in Europe. The film is set to debut on Netflix on July 25.

Despite being ranked as the world’s No. 1 golfer, Scheffler has expressed a desire to explore life beyond the golf course. He recently reflected on the fleeting nature of victory, stating, “It feels like you work your whole life to celebrate winning a tournament for, like, a few minutes.”

He elaborated on his experience at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in May, where he felt a lifetime of effort culminated in a brief moment of joy. “I literally worked my entire life to become good at golf to have an opportunity to win that tournament,” he said. “And you win it. You celebrate. Get to hug my family... And then it’s like, ‘OK, now what are we going to eat for dinner?’”

Scheffler continued to share his thoughts on the transient nature of success in sports. “Life goes on. Is it great to be able to win tournaments and accomplish things in golf? Yeah, it brings tears to my eyes just to think about because I’ve literally worked my entire life to become good at the sport.”

Happy Gilmore 2 is set to premiere on Netflix on July 25, promising fans a blend of nostalgia and new adventures.
